Update: 9/3/2024 – Jim VanBrederode Unveils 3-Point Plan for Crime Victims Following Tragic Murder of Domestic Violence Victim

Rochester, NY — Today, Jim VanBrederode, candidate for New York State Senate, will hold a press conference in response to the tragic murder of domestic violence victim, Melikah Bruner.

VanBrederode will address the numerous failures within the Criminal Justice System that allowed this senseless act to occur and will unveil his comprehensive 3-point plan aimed at providing better protection for crime victims.

“It is painfully clear that the system failed Melikah Bruner and her child, who tragically witnessed her murder,” said VanBrederode. “Our Criminal Justice System must do more to protect victims, just as it does for defendants.”

VanBrederode’s plan will include a comprehensive witness protection program, ensuring that victims receive the same level of protection that defendants are afforded while in custody. His call for “parity” underscores the need for a balanced approach in safeguarding those who are most vulnerable.
